Grand Teton National Park is made for Families
I can’t think of a more beautiful location for a family photo session than Grand Teton National Park. And bonus for getting them done while on vacation and having those memories as part of your wonderful time together. As with weddings and elopements in the park, I have some amazing locations to take families during their visit to the park.
Here is a wonderful google map that I’ve spent creating that has a collection of the best locations in the park for photos. But before you check that out here is some advice for all family sessions in Grand Teton National Park.
Outfits for Families at Grand Tetons
First think of colors, after the middle of July, the grass starts to get really yellow and dead looking. You can plan on your background with the Tetons being blue, yellows, and greens. Picking colors that go with those ones will help in having your photos turn out the best. Neutrals are always great and I especially love what Kayla did with her family in these photos and have the deep green. I also always love a cowboy/west vibe with layered vests, hats, boots, and buckles. You need to have a little pattern and a little texture. And you are always free to ask me for advice.
Also, Kayla wanted to have separate outfit for her and her husband. I love that. Getting a few minutes to just focus on Mom and Dad after we’ve gotten some family photos is one of my favorite things to do.
Winter photos are always best with colors that go with white. I personally love green, red, and black.
Tips for Planning your Family Session in The Grand Tetons
If you have time, plan on picking two or three locations that are close to each other. With so much beauty and variety, its fun to take advantage of as much as the park as you can for your photos.
After the sun goes down behind the mountains, you will still have about 20 minutes of shooting time in what us photographers call “blue hour.” This is the time where the light is soft and the Tetons really pop. So if your photographer picks a time that is late, don’t worry, we know what light gets the best photos.
The temperature in GTNP can be unpredictable. Plan our outfits accordingly and bring a jacket or coat just in case. Especially if you have little ones, consider having layers for them.
Be flexible and HAVE FUN! This close to majestic peaks you never know what you are going to get but most of the time in the summer the Tetons are something out of a storybook. Have fun, relax, trust me and my experience to pose and prompt you for the best cuddles and laughs for your photos.
