Best Seasons to Get Family Photos in Idaho Falls

Idaho Falls is a beautiful area with many parks and surrounded by mountains. I love being able to do Idaho Falls family photography to these locations and get photos to hang on your walls for years to come. I believe Idaho is known for it’s pretty brutal winters. While winter photos can beautiful, I suggest getting them done in November-December before the really cold months of January and February. But my favorite time of year to do family photography, well any photos actually, is fall. I love the rich tones in the leaves, especially if we can get sun peeking through. Summer and Spring are always beautiful and easy times to get family photos as the weather is usually warmer and we have blossoms or green to incorporate into the background.

Bundle Up! Keeping Warm for Family Photos

While Fall is my favorite, in Idaho it can be still be pretty cold. I always suggest having layers so that kids aren’t cold and miserable during the session. I’m pretty good about keeping the session active and moving, but if your kids are miserable there is only so many silly jokes and funny faces I can make. Layers can be so cute in photos. I have a pinterest board full of outfit ideas if you need some inspiration on how to get started.

Tips for Families

Spoil your kids on photo day. Promise ice cream or a treat after pictures and try not to get mad or irritated during the session. If something isn’t working we will move on and come back to it. Let me be the “bad guy.” (Which I never am!) Most times, kids will listen to a stranger over their parents. It makes my job easier if you just keep smiling and having as much fun as possible. We can play games, or toss them in the air. There are lots of way to help kids feel loved and start having fun.
