Importance of Capturing Emotions in Family Photography
Family photography is a beautiful art that goes beyond just capturing smiling faces looking at the camera; it freezes the emotions, playfulness, and sweetness of your family. As my youngest is turning 5 soon, I can look back on my own family photos and really see how each of my children grew, changed and honored that time with them. For the Haycocks, the mountains of Swan Valley, Idaho, provide a breathtaking backdrop for a gorgeous family session. As a Grand Teton, Idaho Falls, and surrounding areas family photographer, I am astounded by the natural beauty of our area and love using it as the perfect canvas to frame the essence of families.
Make it Fun; Falls Creek Ice Cream Parlor
One effective way to capture genuine emotions within a family is to promise them something delightful afterward. In Swan Valley, there are ice cream parlors located all along the Snake River. One of my favorites is the famous square ice cream at the Rainey Creek Store.
I like to try and make family sessions feel like playing with your family in the mountains. We want to create an atmosphere where the camera becomes a friend rather than an intruder. I encourage families to engage in games, whether it’s playing tag, London Bridge, Choo-choo train, or tickle fights. If you are laughing and having fun, the photos come out playful, genuine, unscripted, and candid and you are left feeling like your family is captured in a dynamic, unique way. Kids can be challenging to get genuine laughs and smiles, take time to tell me about what your child enjoys from songs, to dancing, to silly noises. This is all about capturing the best of your family.
