Planning a Family Trip to Grand Teton National Park | Activities + Family Photography Tips
A family trip to Grand Teton National Park is one of the most memorable adventures you can take together. My own family loves to camp there at least once a year and get away from the busyness of life, kayak in String Lake, and hike a few trails. With incredible mountain views, wildlife, and endless outdoor activities, it’s the perfect place to slow down and spend meaningful time with family. And as a Grand Teton National Park family photographer, I would also suggest that one of those meaningful moments should be a family photo session with me! 😀
Best Things to Do as a Family in Grand Teton
There’s no shortage of family-friendly activities in the park. Easy scenic stops everywhere! Some of my personal favorites are Oxbow Bend, then spend a day on the shores of Colter Bay. It’s mostly a small pebble beach and my kids love kayaking and swimming. Other views that are worth checking out are: Schwabacher’s Landing, Mormon Row, Taggart Lake Trailhead (a great little hike, about an hour, up to a glacier lake, perfect for a picnic lunch), Cascade Canyon Turnout, and String Lake.
My kids also love taking the ferry across Jenny Lake and hiking up to Hidden Falls. We did it when they were younger (4 or 5 years old) and the hike was just enough length for them without it being too much.
Don’t Forget to Capture the Memories
One of the best ways to remember your trip is by scheduling a session with a Grand Teton family photographer. The Teton mountains are some of the most stunning in the country. And with countless photo opportunities, a photo session there can not be beat.
I try to keep family sessions in the Tetons are relaxed and fun. Whether you’re visiting from out of town or planning a special trip, working with a Jackson Hole family photographer ensures you leave with images that truly reflect your time together.
Tips for Planning Your Session
The best time for photos is sunrise or sunset, when the light is soft and the mountains are glowing. I love both times for different reasons.
Most importantly, come ready to have fun. The best images happen when families relax, play, and simply enjoy being together in one of the most beautiful places in the country.
Ashley contacted me about doing her family photos while there on vacation. She herself is a photographer and she expressed to me how picky she was about photos. She wanted some good connection with her kids and lots of photos of her and her husband, and the scenery was most important. She wanted the mountains to be big and prominent. I think we did a great job!! This is just a small taste.
