Best Locations for Photos in Grand Teton National Park | A Photographer’s Guide
If you’re planning a photo session in Grand Teton National Park, choosing the right location is one of the most important parts of creating beautiful, timeless images. With so many incredible viewpoints, it can be hard to narrow it down though there is no wrong choice—so here are some of the best photo locations in Grand Teton National Park according to me, someone who does photography there often. Here are my Top 5 Favorite Locations for photos in Grand Teton, a Photographer’s Guide.
Mormon Row
If you are a lover of an open grassy field with the moutains towering in the background, Mormon Row in Grand Teton is the place for you. I adore this location, not only for its beautiful views, but the massive amount of variety. There is the open grassy field, the barns, the fence, and even a small grove of tree that has wildflowers in June.
Mormon Row Historic District is one of the most iconic spots in the park. The historic barns, including the famous T.A. Moulton Barn, sit in front of the Teton Range, creating a classic Wyoming scene. This location is especially beautiful in early summer when the grass is green and vibrant. I recommend this location less as we get towards the end of August as the grass gets a lot taller and loses its lush green color turning more wheat color. This can be harder to edit if you have fair skin as the colors are too similar.
This location is open as long as the snow isn’t too deep. Usually from April to November. It is outside the fee area of the park.

Schwabacher’s Landing
Schwabacher’s Landing offers some of the most breathtaking view of Grand Teton with the Snake River as a supporting character. It’s a favorite for sunrise sessions as the colors hit the peaks so well and you usually have a good amount of time before the sun makes it to your face. It is a more popular spot in Grand Teton, so expect more visitors during peak season (May-August), but is definitely worth putting on your list to visit. I have a few hidden spots I like to frequent during these months to avoid the crowds. There is a cute bench I love to use there, plus I am a sucker for sagebrush and the beautiful green it adds to photos.
One thing to note about this location is that towards the end of summer there is quite a bit of dust. That can be more difficult in a wedding dress.
This location is closed off November-April. It is outside the fee area of the park.

Cascade Canyon
Cascade Canyon is a favorite of mine simply because sunset here is stunning! The sun hits right between the peaks and I adore it. It is closer to the mountains and they feel massive. This spot is usually pretty quiet and not quite as touristy as other areas in the park. There are many times that I am the only one there, which is so nice for families and those that want a more private moment. This view is about 8 miles from the Park entrance on the Moose side. It is close to Cathedral Group Turnout and String Lake.

Blacktail Overlook
Blacktail Ponds Overlook is an easy-access location with sweeping views of the valley and the Tetons. It’s a great option for families who want stunning scenery without a long walk. I would not recommend for larger groups. In the summer this spot also gets sunflowers and other wildflowers and is beautiful. While this isn’t a spot I use for an entire session, I do like to combine this location with Schwabacher’s Landing or Mormon Row to round out a photography session. There is a wooden fence there that adds variety and if you are willing to walk down the trail, where the fisherman go, you can get a more grassy feel by the water.

Teton Glacier Overlook
Teton Glacier Turnout is in the park and right up against the mountains. It is stunning and you can’t go wrong with shooting here for your photography session in Grand Teton. I love to combine this location with Cascade Canyon Turnout so that you get two different views of the mountains and they are 10 minutes apart.
