Though the mountains tree leaves may be on the ground, we have tons to be found in Idaho Falls. The town is beautiful and ready for Halloween this week. Halloween is my second favorite holiday! And Idaho Falls has many fun Halloween activities.
As a creative, sometimes we need to just do something different than the norm. Yesterday, I drew on my friend’s shoulder with sharpie for an hour and it was so relaxing. It was the same with this session. Nathan and Tori are some of the sweetest people and answered my model call to put carved out pumpkins on your head with faith in my ability. I could not stop laughing the 30 mins we worked together. Even though the pumpkins were heavy, they still managed to be the cutest couple and listen to me as a shouted instructions to get through the thick skins of the pumpkins. Haha. It was a blast. It made my creative spirit soar. And they are so dang fun. It shows how posing and body movement are important in telling a story.
Halloween is an Interesting Holiday
The jack-o’-lantern has a long history with Halloween, although our favorite demonic faces haven’t always been carved out of pumpkins. Their origin comes from an Irish myth about Stingy Jack, who tricked the Devil for his own monetary gain. When Jack died, God didn’t allow him into heaven, and the Devil didn’t let him into hell, so Jack was sentenced to roam the earth for eternity. In Ireland, people started to carve demonic faces out of turnips to frighten away Jack’s wandering soul. When Irish immigrants moved to the U.S., they began carving jack-o’-lanterns from pumpkins, as these were native to the region. And now we just make them cute and put them in on our heads for fun.
Thank you Tori and Nathan again for trusting me, working with me, and being so fun. Love you guys.
