When to Get Teton Engagements Done

As an Idaho Falls Wedding and Engagement Photographer, I take engagement photos all year round, but if you are getting married in the fall or summer, most likely your engagements will be in the spring. When it comes to doing engagements in Grand Teton National Park though, as late into spring as you can get is ideal. The wildflowers come to the Tetons in June and tha’ts so pretty. But honestly, like I always say, you can’t go wrong with the Tetons as your background to your wedding or engagement photos.

A general rule of thumb is to take engagement photos about 6 months prior to your wedding. This is especially true if you plan to use them for your Save the Dates. Most couples send out Save the Dates 4-6 months before their wedding date. If you are planning a wedding in Grand Teton National Park, you might consider sending them out even earlier than 4-6 months. Your guests will need to secure lodging early near Jackson Hole

Pink House on Mormon Row: Grand Teton National Park

Martha and Alex have a special connection to the Teton area. We went and visited The Pink House by Mormon Row. I love the sweet story behind this historical landmark. This house belonged to John and Bartha Moulton and their family, who first arrived in the valley in 1907. This house was built in 1943, replacing their older log cabin. As for the salmon pink color: for a time Bartha was in the hospital, and John wanted to do something to celebrate her homecoming. Knowing that she had been wanting to repaint the house for some time, he did so, but there was a misunderstanding. As it turned out, this pink shade was not the color Bartha had in mind for the house. In fact, she didn’t care much for the color at all, but decided to leave the paint as was it was because she loved the sentiment behind it.

One of the reasons I love photographing in Grand Teton National Park is that there is so much variety in the park within just a few miles. I have a map with all the best places to take photos here. For those visiting the park and/or Jackson Hole for the first time, that’s a great place to start for amazing views throughout the area. For Martha and Alex engagements in the Tetons, we went to Jenny’s Lake after stopping on the road to get a good view of the Tetons. I love the simple white outfits these two chose. These two will always have my heart. I’m so grateful that I was able to witness their beginning together.

Summer Engagements with the Smokey Tetons

If you are taking your engagement photos in Grand Teton National Park in the summer, fire smoke could completely block out the view of the mountains. Last year, 2022, the smoke was mild, but in years past it has been difficult occasionally. There are many other beautiful places in the area, but that is a huge bummer if you’ve traveled there for those views. Plan to stay for a few days if you are visiting the area and hope to get a clear view one evening during your stay. Also, the mountains are almost always more clear in the mornings. Light is much harsher in the mornings, but rescheduling to a morning session might be a good route if evenings are super smoky.

Idaho Falls, is a 2 hr drive from the Tetons, but morning or evening is worth is in the Tetons for engagements, bridals, or weddings. See you on the mountains.
