Rutton Family in Swan Valley Idaho

I don’t know why it took me so long to blog this stunning family session in Swan Valley with the Ruttons. Sierra and Matt have become one of my favorite couples to photograph. I had them model for me when we did the Swan Valley stylized shoot at the new venue Rainey Creek Estates. I pretty much have a crush on the way they look, laugh, and interact with each other. And it all started here when Sierra, who is also a photographer in the Idaho Falls area as well and is completely talented, asked me to photograph her family in the tall grasses of Swan Valley with the mountains in the background.

Beauty in the Chaos: Philosophy for Family Sessions

The most beautiful thing about this session was the chaos. Now here me out, as a mom myself I know it can be completely stressful to try and “manage” the kids. You want really nice photos. You put in the effort to find everyone clothes, get everyone looking good, make sure they are fed, happy, and not fighting, you just want the perfect photos to display in your home. You want perfection. But one something one of my favorite photographers, Breanna Weston, says is that there is beauty in the chaos. And the Rutton family embraced it. With 4 kids under 5 years of age, plus twins, there was still so much laughing, hugging and smiles even among some of the whining. I am especially in awe of how much Matt and Sierra kept smiling while getting mauled to death with love. Haha. I was in complete love with their children by the end of our time together.

That is my biggest piece of advice when it comes to family photos. Let go of the worry. Just ENJOY being with your kids. I am in complete love with the interactions we got with Sierra and Matt and their children. We had fun playing games and while things didn’t always go as plan, they kept laughing and smiling and enjoying each other. And I think we got some of the most BEAUTIFUL interactions.
