Classic St. Bernard’s Catholic Wedding in Blackfoot
The first words that come to mind when I reflect on my day with Amparo and Omar and their traditional Catholic Wedding at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Blackfoot, with reception and dinner at The Waterfront at Snake River Landing in Idaho Falls is: LOVE, FUN, and JOY. It amazes me how each couple can bring their own personality into their wedding. With Amparo and Omar is was about family, faith, and traditions. We started off the day getting ready for the traditional mass at St. Bernard’s. Though it was all in Spanish and I didn’t understand what was happening, I could tell that each part of the ceremony was full of cultural values and customs. There was tears, prayers, hugs, handshakes, kisses, and devotion. I got a first row seat to take out the words and just see the emotions, and it was beautiful. As I was looking over the photos from this part of the day I see the joy on their faces and the faces of the many people who joined them to listen to their joining by Father Jose.
Let the Party Begin! Waterfront, Mariachi Band, Dancing
Then the party began! The mariachi band came from the church to the dinner and kept the fun music going. There was food, family, and dancing. Some of the things that Amparo and Omar had was first dances, the money dance (always one of my favorites), cutting the cake, family toast, and lots of dancing. There was DJ to take over for the band, and then a live band started the party into the night. I had to peace out at some point, but I know the couple and their families partied into the night.
Special Wedding Moments: Daddy & Daughter
I get to see these families in such an intimate environment, and I consider that such a privilege! Amparo’s dance with her dad had everyone crying. She then topped it off by dancing with her mom: more tears. And then she danced with each of her five brothers: who I loved seeing throughout the day. Omar’s dance with his mom was sweet and he grinned the entire time. What I loved about this reception was all the dancing. The Waterfront is a big venue on the Snake River, but it was overflowing with all the people who came to celebrate with these two and their families. Amparo’s dad sang a song; I think about family. The entire family put their arms around each other and watched. I just loved the connection that I saw with their families.
I’m grateful for Amparo and Omar for trusting me with their wedding photos. I had a blast with them. I can’t wait to do their bridal session in a few weeks. I truly adore the way the look at each other and laugh so easily.
